About Exhibition

The Castleberry Hill gallery of Besharat Art Gallery is located in an 1885 building reminiscent of a European Salon.

Sen Shombit had a solo exhibition at the Besharat Gallery from 9 July 2021. That was during the infamous Covid period. But the gallery stretched the closing date beyond 9 August 2021 as the response was positive, such as art professors calling from other cities to say they wanted to bring their students to see the exhibition.

Atlanta city was incorporated in 1847, and became the state capital of Georgia in 1877. Castleberry Hill has always been an Atlanta neighborhood. It is a unique urban community with a strong historic identity

Castleberry Hill Arts District

Today, Castleberry Hill is a downtown arts district with art galleries, bars, restaurants and shops.

Castleberry Hill is an industrial area turned trendy, with residential lofts and indie art galleries in old warehouses. The neighborhood is also a popular filming location, and walking tours take in sites like The Gulch, a derelict space often used in major TV shows and movies. The casual, eclectic dining scene encompasses everything from Southern soul food and hearty Mexican to creative sushi.

INDIA’S BLOODY INDEPENDENCEIN 1947

When India was partitioned 1947 to create Pakistan, a new country for Muslims, about 20 million people of Bengal and Punjab were displaced and brutally victimized. Sen’s wealthy, literate family had huge landed property in erstwhile East Bengal, the present Bangladesh, which was carved out to be East Pakistan for Muslims. So for being Hindus Sen’s family was overnight evicted from their home. Without taking any possessions, they fled for their lives amidst people warring over religion, and so became squatted refugees in West Bengal.
