Flirting 2019. / Acrylic on Canvas / 240 x 200 cm

Meaning of my painting style called Abstract with hidden figuratives. When you see this painting called “Flirting” below, you can only see a burst of colours on the canvas in abstract form. Upfront you may not depict any figuratives. If you pay curious attention, you will find a rhinocéros, a bird and a woman. They are intertwined, they are flirting. This for me represents a woman’s platonic imagination. The size of the creatures in reality is not of consequence, in nature everyone enjoys the status you give them. If you do not discover any figuratives in this style of Abstract with hidden figuratives, you can enjoy the colours in abstraction.

When India was partitioned 1947 to create Pakistan, a new country for Muslims, about 20 million people of Bengal and Punjab were displaced and brutally victimized. Sen’s wealthy, literate family had huge landed property in erstwhile East Bengal, the present Bangladesh, which was carved out to be East Pakistan for Muslims. So for being Hindus Sen’s family was overnight evicted from their home. Without taking any possessions, they fled for their lives amidst people warring over religion, and so became squatted refugees in West Bengal.
