As a collector of contemporary art, I’ve always been drawn to works that challenge conventions, provoke reflection, or illuminate something essential about the human condition. Sen’s paintings arise from an intuitive place, shaped by his surroundings, cultural influences, and personal reflections. His canvases are deeply personal, yet accessible and evocative.
A Sen Shombit painting jolts the viewer into attention. “Focus” may be the wrong word, his works don’t offer a single point of entry, but rather unfold through layers of movement and multifaceted shards of color, each forming its own micro-space of visual intensity.
The eye rarely rests. Instead, it dances across a vibrant surface, catching glimpses of landscapes, bridges, village houses, or a woman’s face, never fully fixed, always in flux.
This interplay of abstraction and figuration is a playful and perpetual game of hide-and-seek. And among these shifting forms, we often encounter recurring figures, such as the rooster in his painting series “Heart of France” – a symbol, perhaps, of joie de vivre, evoking both Sen’s adopted homeland and his own exuberant personality.
Art does not speak to every viewer in the same way. That is its strength. It invites conversation, interpretation, even disagreement. Each interaction with a viewer adds new meaning, extending the work beyond the artist’s intention.
Sen has always embraced this openness. He has never painted to please, but because painting is essential to who he is.
When Sen asked me to contribute a few words, I accepted readily, not out of obligation, but out of appreciation for the sincerity of his path. His art is a personal language, shaped over time, speaking with clarity and conviction.
Friendships have a way of evolving over time. They may begin with a single moment of connection and grow organically over decades, shaped by shared experiences, mutual respect, and an appreciation for each other’s unique perspectives.
Our story with Sen began over forty years ago when his design company undertook the ambitious task of reimagining the visual identity of my food product business. We faced a daunting challenge: large multinationals were entering the market, and we needed to raise our game.
Sen and his team embraced the project wholeheartedly, becoming part of our extended family and bringing forward inventive and audacious proposals. We dared to follow their suggestions and over the next few years, success followed. We retained our leadership position, and the company flourished.
Through that process, what began as a professional engagement gradually transformed into a lasting friendship, one grounded in dialogue, creativity, and mutual admiration.
Over the decades, I’ve had the chance to witness Sen’s evolution not only as a strategist and branding visionary but also as a painter, passionately developing a visual language that is uniquely his. His journey as an artist has been marked by unwavering dedication and a spirit of invention which conveys the curiosity, intensity, and inner drive that have always defined Sen’s creative journey.
Sen is a chronicle of a creative life still in motion.
