Series: HEART OF FRANCE
Living experience
Sen’s deep-rooted fascination for French art, history and culture has no boundary. Coming from an underprivileged, slum-like refugee camp with a very dissimilar culture, he had mysteriously nourished a passion for French art. In his mind, France was the harbinger of creativity and artistic freedom. At age 19 in 1973, when youngsters from India were opting to go to the US to earn money, and even later, when several US opportunities arose for him, he did not abandon his incomparable love of France.
To get a flair of the country in detail, its values, soil, breeze and light, Sen used to travel across France. That’s how his painting series “Heart of France” evolved. He understood the value of Marianne, the symbol of liberty when the Republic was formed. During the French Revolution, the rooster often appeared in art symbolising hope and faith. Both these symbols mesmerized Sen for their symbolisation of democracy. In this series, he utilized these 2 symbols in association with different historical monuments of France in a vibrant, passionate way.
The “Heart of France” series illustrates in a vibrant and passionate way Sen’s deep love for France. Through the emblematic landscapes where historical monuments are recognizable, he expresses all his love and gratitude for what France has given him.
