Escapadose - an imaginative vaccine

Sen Shombit’s insurgence against Covid19 has seen a serious spike in his colour barometer. He locked himself down since 15 March 2020, except for 3 days. He broke free from this war, with many paintings in 2020, and these eight in the theme of “Escapadose” comprise his first production of 2021. He says colours, nature and his wife Renee surrounding him in their home called Love & Courage have put blinkers on his eyes where his experience with the vibrancy of colours has been heightened with expressive movement of the mind.

For Sen, colour is the only vaccine to escape from all kinds of pandemics such as Covid19, religion and politics. He says, “The more I try to escape, the more intensely do I see colours march gesturally into my canvas.” Finding different hidden figuratives in abstract form takes him totally into an euphoric planet of colour and imagination.

INDIA’S BLOODY INDEPENDENCEIN 1947

When India was partitioned 1947 to create Pakistan, a new country for Muslims, about 20 million people of Bengal and Punjab were displaced and brutally victimized. Sen’s wealthy, literate family had huge landed property in erstwhile East Bengal, the present Bangladesh, which was carved out to be East Pakistan for Muslims. So for being Hindus Sen’s family was overnight evicted from their home. Without taking any possessions, they fled for their lives amidst people warring over religion, and so became squatted refugees in West Bengal.
