1994... Gesturism Art, Paris

Sen started a new painting style from 1994 which he has named as Gesturism Art. Having immersed himself into French art since his academic period in Paris to absorb the meaning of different art movements, he had fully learnt and mastered the structure and discipline of western art. He then realized that the time had now come for him to break free from academic learning and give full reign to his imagination to find an expression he could call his own. So with total freedom of expression, with strong gestures of brush, ink, and colour, he started the Gesturism Art style. From 1994 onwards, Sen’s liberated imagination with consistency in his works of art has made his art evolve year after year towards abstract with hidden figuratives.

INDIA’S BLOODY INDEPENDENCEIN 1947

When India was partitioned 1947 to create Pakistan, a new country for Muslims, about 20 million people of Bengal and Punjab were displaced and brutally victimized. Sen’s wealthy, literate family had huge landed property in erstwhile East Bengal, the present Bangladesh, which was carved out to be East Pakistan for Muslims. So for being Hindus Sen’s family was overnight evicted from their home. Without taking any possessions, they fled for their lives amidst people warring over religion, and so became squatted refugees in West Bengal.
